History, Landscape, and Culture of the Island

Years and years of volcanic activity have split the originally round shaped Santorini into five different islands: Santorini, Thirassia, Aspronisi, Palaia Kammeni and Nea Kammeni. At Palaia Kammeni island, there are healing hot springs, the yellow waters of which contain a big amount of sulfur, known for its therapeutic effects. At the lunar island of Nea Kammeni, there are also hot springs, as well as the volcano’s crater.

What’s more, like the rest of Cycladic islands, Santorini boasts amazing architecture. Traditional villages, blue domed churches and cliffs dotted with whitewashed houses create the perfect scenery for island exploration.
